Siple earns Rotary honors

Wyatt Siple, a student Mira Monte Elementary School, was honored by the Rotary Club of Ojai for his positive attitude and stellar sportsmanship.
The Rotary Club of Ojai recently honored Wyatt Siple as its Physical Education Project Student of the Month. The presentation was made by Rotarian Bill Hatch. Mira Monte Elementary School Principal Katherine White explained to the group why Siple was selected for the honor.
Hersh starting to shine at Concordia University

Former Nordhoff High School star Shane Hersh is starting to hit his stride at Concordia University in Irvine. Hersh, who graduated from NHS in 2015, was a two sport star for the Rangers. On the gridiron, Hersh was a standout running back but was best known for his work on the defensive side of the ball where he led the Rangers in tackles for the majority of his career.
Ojai Valley Aces crush Moorpark in season opener

In Junior Team Tennis action, the Ojai Valley Aces won their first match of the spring season last Sunday in decisive fashion, defeating Moorpark 48-9. The team, playing in the girls' 18-and-under division, swept all six sets including four singles and two doubles eight-game pro sets.

This winter the Nordhoff High School boys’ basketball team went 16-9 overall and 9-1 in Citrus Coast League play, which earned the Rangers a share of the league title along with the Carpinteria Warriors.
Villanova Prep names new head baseball coach

Shain Logeais, shown here with his family, recently took over the Villanova Prep baseball program. The Wildcats are hoping their new coach can help the program get back to the post season this spring.
Villanova Preparatory School Athletic Department recently announced the appointment of Shain Logeais as the new head varsity baseball coach. Logeais graduated from Long Beach Wilson High School, where he played both baseball and water polo. He continued his education at Pepperdine University on a full baseball scholarship under three-time National Coach of the Year Andy Lopez. During his second season at Pepperdine, a shoulder injury ended his pitching career and he transferred to Biola University where he was a successful first baseman for his final two years of college baseball.

Ojai Valley Wrestling Club offering open mat workouts

The Ojai Valley Wrestling Club is now offering open mat workouts every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Nordhoff High School. All interested wrestlers age five and up are welcome to attend. Participants will learn Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling. The only cost for the program is $50 for a USA Wrestling Insurance card. Cards will be sold at all workouts.
Nordhoff hosts first-ever girls' lacrosse game

This year Nordhoff High School announced it would field a girls’ lacrosse team for the first time in school history. On Feb. 25, NHS hosted Cate for the inaugural game which ended in a 4-3 win for the visiting Rams.

On Feb. 21, the Nordhoff High School baseball team hosted its first home game of the season against the Santa Ynez Pirates. Santa Ynez opened the game with a four-run first inning, but the Rangers answered with three in the bottom of the first to remain within striking distance. After going back and forth over the next few innings, the Rangers scored four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to take a 7-6 lead.

Bishop Diego tops Rangers 3-1 in volleyball opener

The Nordhoff High School boys’ volleyball team hosted the Bishop Diego Cardinals Feb. 25 in what was the season opener for the Rangers. NHS lost the first set 25-20 but rebounded to take the second set 25-17. From there, Bishop Diego proved to be too much for the Rangers as they took the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20.

The Nordhoff High School baseball program has struggled to win games in recent years, but the Rangers are hopeful new head coach Sam Campa can turn the tides this spring.

Despite a long history of success on the diamond, the Nordhoff High School baseball program has struggled mightily in recent years. Over the last four seasons, the Rangers have only managed to win 14 games while dropping 70. The program’s last winning season was 2014, and NHS hasn’t qualified for the postseason since 2015.

Baylor's Boyd earns first victory of the season

Former Nordhoff High School standout Luke Boyd is pitching in his final season as a Baylor Bear and on Feb. 15, he notched his first victory over the season over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Boyd pitched the final two innings of Baylor’s 8-7 extra inning win, allowing one hit while striking out one batter.

The Nordhoff High School basketball team won the 2019-2020 Citrus Coast League title along with the Carpinteria Warriors and scored a big first round playoff win over Laguna Blanca. In the second round, NHS traveled to face Rancho Alamitos but lost in overtime, 61-56.
