Wimpee’s role continues to grow at Purdue

Sydnie “Mo” Wimpee, a Nordhoff High alumna, is looking to continue to grow her role with the Purdue University softball team. Wimpee is in her junior year, with sophomore standing, due to the extra year of NCAA eligibility as a result of COVID-19. Purdue finished the regular season with a series victory over Iowa, giving them a record of 24-30 on the season.
Ranger golf perfect in CCL again

For the second consecutive season, the Nordhoff High School boys’ golf team went undefeated in Citrus Coast League play. This spring, the Rangers posted an impressive 26-3 overall record, and they went 20-0 against league opponents.

For months now, Nordhoff High School boys’ tennis coach Todd Dickey has been talking about his tight-knit team and how hard they compete. Dickey’s prediction of a deep playoff run has come true as the Rangers now find themselves in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 finals.

The Nordhoff High School softball team got hot at the right time and made a nice run in the CIF Southern Section playoffs. After struggling most of the season, the Lady Rangers logged a few timely Citrus Coast League victories and earned a wildcard game last week.

Swimmers from Nordhoff High School recently took part in the Citrus Coast League finals, which were held at Malibu High School. In girls’ varsity action, the Lady Rangers took third in the team competition, while the junior varsity squad claimed first place.

The Villanova Prep swim team is sending two athletes to the CIF Division 3 swim meet. Junior Luigi Travi claimed the top prize in two events at the Tri-Valley League championships to advance to CIF, while Ida Tully-Giles qualified for the next round.

One of the best sports stories in the Ojai Valley this spring has been the play of the Ojai Valley School baseball team. The Spuds recently concluded the 2022 regular season with a 13-2 record overall, and the squad won the Omega League title with a perfect 5-0 record in league action.

After starting the season 1-9, the idea of making the playoffs was not much of a reality for the Nordhoff High School softball program. However, the Lady Rangers managed to right the ship. After winning two of their final three Citrus Coast League games, the team earned a wildcard game against Foothill Tech. NHS won the contest 8-4 to advance to the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.

Nordhoff High School Head Tennis Coach Todd Dickey is all smiles these days when he talks about the accomplishments of this year’s team. The Rangers took part in the 2022 Citrus Coast League championship tournament on April 26, and five of the six NHS players who took the court earned first team all-league honors in the process.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, The Ojai Tennis Tournament is back and there is a great deal of excitement around this year’s event. The 2022 tournament is the 120th time some of the world’s best tennis players converge on the Ojai Valley for several days of top-level competition.

York paces Sundowner field

Ojai resident Troy York shot a 3-under par round during week two of the Sundowner Golf League season.
Players in the Sundowner Golf League took advantage of perfect conditions this past Tuesday at Soule Park to post low scores across the board. After a week in which the entire league struggled in windy and cold conditions, Mother Nature gave the field a break with calm and warm weather.

This spring, the Nordhoff High School boys’ golf team has posted an impressive 17-3 record overall and the Rangers are a perfect 12-0 in Citrus Coast League play. In the Citrus Coast League individual tournament, NHS junior Kevin McDonald continues to lead the league with two rounds remaining.
