One ingredient in complex recipe
LARRY YEE, Ojai
Seeing Fred Drennan’s March 29 letter to the editor, “A better water solution,” gives me the opportunity to clarify apparent misunderstandings and misgivings about State Water Project water as proposed in the Three Sisters Plan (3SP).
The 3SP, which was published and issued by the Ojai Valley Water Advisory Group in February 2018, was a proposed plan to provide for a more water-secure future by developing a cooperative regional water management plan of the three largest water districts in Ventura County — Casitas, Ventura and Calleguas. By working more cooperatively, the 3SP pools resources and creates mutual benefits that do not currently exist.

Howard Landon: a great teacher
CLIVE LEEMAN, Ojai
Seeing this week's obituary of 91-year-old Howard Landon, former Nordhoff High School teacher, did not surprise me but I was saddened at his passing and dismayed that the brief account of his life did not highlight the profound and prolonged influence Howard Landon had on thousands of students in this valley, including me.
He was probably the longest tenured teacher in the history of Nordhoff.

Blessings on David Pressey
A. ADAMS, Ojai
To David Pressey:
First of all, your Op-Ed in the March 15 OVN, “Patriot reminds countrymen of lessons from the ‘Forgotten War,’” was beautifully written and expressed the sentiments that many share. We are forever in your debt because you are some of the truest patriots who has served your country militarily. That patriotism is not forgotten, though the wars you fought might be. Heroes you are.

‘Rock Talk’ rocks
LANNY KAUFER, Meiners Oaks
I was disappointed to see Bill Locey’s local music column disappear from The Star, but now I’m thrilled to see it reappear in the Ojai Valley News as “Rock Talk.” For a valley the size of ours, we have a remarkably vital, talented and diverse music scene, especially if you include the neighboring towns within an hour’s drive. It’s deserving of a column in the local paper and Bill is just the person to write it. If you agree with me, please let the editor know how you feel so the OVN can “give the people what they want” (title of Jimmy Cliff’s 1981 reggae album).

Eastern corridor increasingly hazardous
LARRY MASER, Ojai
Due to increased traffic in Ojai, the eastern corridor through Boardman Road, Gorham Road and Avenida de la Entrada has become an increasingly hazardous section.
Exiting Boardman onto Highway 150 (left turn) is difficult due to limited visibility. People rolling the stop sign on Gorham is a common experience. Exiting Entrada is sketchy due to speeding traffic from people leaving Ojai or heading into town. The lumberyard in the middle adds to the equation.

Top challenge: diversion gates
BILL HICKS, Ojai
There have been letters to the editor that necessitate a response. One, on Feb. 15, suggested that it is a mistake to hook up to state water and the other, on Feb. 22, was asking for three of the Casitas board members to resign.
We have been paying for the option to get state water for more than 30 years. The city of Ventura has an allocation of 10,000 acre-feet, United Water District has 5,000 acre-feet and Casitas 5,000 acre-feet. Many millions of dollars have been invested to maintain this option. We have been in a severe drought for many years and we need to exercise this option now or it may never happen. The rest of the state is in great shape, thanks to the very wet winter we have just experienced.

Definite benefits to state water
BRUCE KUEBLER, Oak View
In response to Feb. 8 Op-Ed by Carolee Krieger “Ojai Can Learn from Santa Barbara’s mistakes with State Water, Part 2”: Santa Barbara benefited substantially from its connection to the State Water Project.
