Firefighters from Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) Station 21 examine the Arcade after a fire started in a trash receptacle Sept. 9 at 8:24 a.m. The flames were put out by deputies from the Ojai Police Station, using fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived. The fire caused smoke damage to one of the arches and an overhead light, but no structural damage to the Arcade, according to VCFD Capt. Stan Ziegler. Firefighters also ventilated Rains department store to rid it of residual smoke. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been determined, Ziegler said.
