Ojai teen arrested on suspicion of arson

Perry Van Houten, Ojai Valley News reporter
Sheriff's deputies arrested a teenage boy on suspicion of arson in connection with a small brush fire in Meiners Oaks July 21.
The fire began at approximately 1:40 p.m. in a vacant lot next to the Roth Apartments at 290 E. El Roblar Drive.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), deputies from the Ojai Police Station, who were at the apartments investigating an unrelated matter, called the fire department.
Five engines and a helicopter were dispatched and doused the advancing flames, which briefly threatened the apartment complex.
The fire, determined to have been intentionally set, burned roughly 1.5 acres but no structures were damaged.
After a three-week investigation, deputies determined that a 17-year-old boy from Ojai allegedly started the fire.
He was arrested on suspicion of arson, issued a citation and released to his family, authorities said.
