A 100-pound California black bear cub was headed back to the wilderness Aug. 30 after first paying a visit to a Meiners Oaks neighborhood.
Residents in the 100 block of Felix Drive spotted the bear in a tree in a backyard at approximately 10 a.m.
Sheriff's deputies and officials from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were hoping the bear would climb down from the tree and make its way back into the forest.
At 1:30 p.m. officials learned the bear was still in the neighborhood, so they set up a perimeter to locate and sedate it.
The bear was located in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of Lomita Avenue.
Ultimately, a Fish and Wildlife officer tranquilized the bear, that was returned unhurt to the Los Padres National Forest.
