Drought seriously curtailing local tangerine crop

Friend's Ranches will not sell tangerines wholesale or via mail until February 2017, according to Emily Ayala of Friend's Ranches Dec. 5.
This marks the first time the farm hasn't shipped fruit during the holiday season in a decade, according to Ayala. “We just don't have any (fruit),” she said.
The lack of fruit is due to the continued drought stated Ayala.
“Because of the lack of rain, many of our early-season tangerines have very small crops, so we will not be able to ship fruit until the more bountiful varieties come along later in the citrus season,” said Ayala, who added that the winter months are typically a busy time for her family and their four employees.
