Hedge-emony: Council reacts to trimming foes

Bill Warner, Ojai Valley News reporter

You might not know it, gazing up at the fine fall sky or overhearing the soft morning breeze at it steals through the sycamores, but Ojai is in a state of emergency. Well, that’s the view, at least, of the Ojai City Council, which invoked the privilege of emergency exception in voting on a non-agenda item during its regular session Tuesday at the Ojai City Hall.

The move, which some thought might violate the Brown Act, came during the meeting’s public comment period, after Ojai resident Alan Thornhill asked the Council to consider a moratorium on enforcement of the city ordinance regulating the height of hedges at intersections where visibility of the street has been impaired.
