Dog stabbing suspect found incompetent to stand trial

Daniel Vigil, the 25-year-old arrested on suspicion of stabbing a dog in Meiners Oaks Feb. 28, has been found incompetent to stand trial, according to Ventura County Superior Court records.
Wednesday in court, Vigil was referred to the "Department of Behavioral Health for placement recommendation," the court docket said. He remains in custody at the Todd Road Jail; no bail has been set. A placement hearing has been set for May 13.
Cisco the dog suffered a 6-inch stab wound between his last two ribs on his left flank. The 8-year-old Irish wolfhound mix is recovering, and almost back to his old self, said owner Jackie Major. "He's got some skin issues, but he's doing great! He's alive, he's well," she said.
