Eells' exhibit opens July 6

Duane Eells will open his first solo exhibition July 6 to 31 at the Ojai Art Center Gallery, 113 S. Montgomery St. This exhibition of oil paintings, titled “Dance,” features a new body of work. Eells said the series is a part of his search for beauty and the sublime through representations of the human figure in motion.
Pop-up art gallery June 29
A pop-up art gallery June 29 will feature works by local artists Susan Griffin, artist, chef and teacher; Gretchen Greenberg, painter, sculptor and mask maker; Mariana Peirano, award-winning figurative artist; and Tom Hardcastle, nationally renowned pastel and oil painter, will be held at Delilah Salon in downtown Ojai.

The Ojai Photography Community will host Santa Barbara-based photographer Chuck Place, presenting “Drone Photography — It’s All About Altitude,” on June 18 at 7 p.m. in Help of Ojai’s Kent Hall, 111 W. Santa Ana St., Ojai. The OPC invites the public to attend this free event.

As part of her West Coast tour, New Orleans songwriter Zoe Boekbinder will be performing June 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Greater Goods in Ojai , 145 W. El Roblar Drive., Ojai.

Ojai artist offers art classes for children

Local artist Sara Beeby will teach children, ages 8 to 12, to paint in six one-and-a-half-hour classes held on Saturdays, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. June 29 to Aug. 4 at the Ojai Art Center (Raymond Room), 113 S. Montgomery St., Ojai.

Calling all artists
Calling all artists, the Ojai Art Center is putting on its annual summer show Aug. 3 to 29. This year’s theme is wide open, titled the “Ojai Summer Open.” All two- and three-dimensional media are welcome. The reception is scheduled for Aug. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Artist to teach classes
Awakening the Artist Within, a six-week creativity course, will take place Tuesdays, June 18 to July 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Poppies Art and Gifts, 323 E. Matilija St., Ojai.
Ojai Studio Artists scholarships to be awarded

The Ojai Studio Artists Scholarship Committee has selected seven students who will receive $10,000 in scholarships. A reception to disburse the awards will take place June 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Ojai City Hall.
Ambassador of happiness in Ojai June 8 and 9
Michel Pascal
Michel Pascal, an ambassador of gratitude and happiness, performs yearly at Carnegie Hall with members of Earth, Wind and Fire to sold-out audiences.

'Miser' set merges into the world of 'Mamma Mia!'
The colorful, toe-tapping, feel-good family musical “Mamma Mia!” will be brought to life this summer at the Ojai Art Center Theater, opening June 14. Director Tracey Williams Sutton wanted a bright scheme of white walls, blue trim and vibrant red flowers for the set in this wildly fun and heartfelt play about a young girl getting married in a Greek villa. The bright light of the Greek sun should shine throughout the show.
