Channel Islands Harbor kicks off the holidays with its 54th annual holiday Parade of Lights from noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 14, beginning with the parade at 7 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “Musical Notes & Holiday Floats.” Everyone is invited to enjoy a full day of holiday activities and watch festively decorated boats in the parade while listening to carolers sing holiday songs.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, the Ojai Short Film Fest will honor Terry Rossio, Academy Award nominee screenwriter, with The 'Awha'y Icon Award, given annually to icons of the entertainment industry worldwide.
The second annual Ojai Short Film Festival — presented by Carl Zeiss of Zeiss Camera Lenses — will be Dec. 13 to 15.

The Ojai Film Society announced the Youth Filmmakers Competition winners during the Ojai Film Festival on Nov. 1 at the Ojai Art Center. The Ojai Film Society sponsors an annual competition for Ojai high school student filmmakers. This year, the 219 winning films are presented for the enjoyment of the high school students attending the festival’s Student Filmmakers Program as well as the festival’s patrons.

Nordhoff High School Theatre Arts will perform "The Foreigner" in the Nordhoff High School Black Box, Room B-4, on Friday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 14.
Performances will be Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
"The Foreigner" is by Larry Shue and is directed by John Hoj. Tickets are available at www.NordhoffDrama.org.
Tickets for the evening performances are $15 general admission and $10 for students.

At this Christmas Eve dinner in 1941 at the Rosario Arms Apartments in Manila, Karen Kerns (Lewis) and her mother, in the apartment of friends, await a knock on the door that would be from either her father, who was making his way on foot down from Baguio City 100 kilometers to the north, or from a Japanese soldier assigned to rounding up American civilians in the bombed city of Manila.
