City seeking applicants for several commission openings - deadline May 13


City HallFour city commissions have openings and residents of the City of Ojai (required for Building Appeals Commission) and the Ojai Valley are encouraged to apply to be appointed for four year terms. The deadline for applications is May 13.

The following commissions for the City of Ojai have openings: Building Appeals Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and the Planning Commission. 

Applicants to the Building Appeals Board must be residents of the City of Ojai, but the other three commissions — Historic Preservation, Parks and Recreation and the Planning Commission — only require applicants to be Ojai Valley residents. 

The Building Appeals Board considers appeals related to the city’s building code and other regulations governing, use, maintenance and changes of building occupancy. Meetings are held monthly or as needed and are typically held Wednesday at 6 p.m. 

The Historic Preservation Commission makes recommendations regarding landmark, property and structure protection, holds public hearings to identify historic landmarks, districts and points of interest and takes appropriate action to preserve and investigate structures of possible historic significance. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at Ojai City Hall. Applicants can live anywhere in the Ojai Valley. 

The Parks and Recreation Commission creates recreation programs and activities and reviews policies and plans for parks and public areas. This commission serves to advise the Ojai City Council. Applicants can reside anywhere in the Ojai Valley. 

The Planning Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the city council to ensure developments within the city limits are aligned with the vision of City leaders and residents. Meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Ojai City Hall. Applicants can reside anywhere in the Ojai Valley.
