Workers this week began dismantling an Ojai home that was once the site of the largest olive mill in the valley. The house, at 601 Pearl St., was built in the early 1900s by George Bald, who left the olive business to take a job as a forest ranger. Bald Street was named for him. George’s son, Howard, was also a ranger with the Ojai Ranger District. Eight new single-family homes will be built on the property, according to Chris Young with Craig Young Construction Co. of Ojai. Demolition of the structure is due to wrap up next week, Young told the Ojai Valley News.
