OUSD school board to meet Monday, May 3, about new assistant superintendent position, reorganization

 5 2 21 OUSDOjai Unified school board will hold a special meeting via teleconference to discuss multiple personnel matters on Monday, May 3, starting at 6 p.m. in closed session. When it meets in open session, it will discuss a proposed reorganization, which includes the hiring of an assistant superintendent of Business Services.
The board will adjourn again into closed session at the end of the meeting to discuss multiple personnel matters, then reconvene in open session to report on any action taken in the second closed session.

The meeting will open at 6 p.m. in open session to receive public comments, if there are any, then adjourn to closed session to discuss the personnel matters.

The board is scheduled to start in open session at 6:30 p.m., at which time it will report on action taken in closed session.

The primary agenda item of the open session is a proposed reorganization to add an assistant superintendent of business, which will be the "first phase of a proposed reorganization plan," according to the agenda. The agenda included a "proposed organizational chart," included with this article.

"Dr. Morse will present information regarding the first phase of a proposed reorganization plan.

"The attached chart shows the proposed new assistant superintendent position and the distribution of duties among cabinet-level positions.

"Funding for the new Assistant Superintendent of Business Services position will come from multiple sources, including special education, general-fund offsets from one-time funding, charter school oversight funds, and summer school revenues.

"This position is needed to 1) address current gaps in services including risk-management and employee benefits 2) to develop and implement new systems across departments increasing efficiency and services, and 3) to manage and oversee the significant increase in reporting requirements due to COVID and other new requirements.

"This reorganization also includes the collapsing of English Learner positions at each site to create a districtwide English Learner and Family Support position. This position will be funded through Title I and III funds."

If the comment is received before 4 p.m., it may be read aloud at the meeting. The board also can decide to limit the public comments read in total to 30 minutes, according to its agenda.

If members of the public would like to make a comment live, in person, they can go to the board room at 414 E. Ojai Ave. at the time for comment and speak to the school board. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.
