Ventura County officials and staff are preparing to launch a COVID-19 vaccine site in Ojai, in partnership with Community Memorial Hospital.
According to Ventura County Public Information Officer Ashley Bautista: “We do not have a specific date for the opening due to the lack of vaccine availability. It is anticipated that as soon as a supply of vaccine can be secured, we will ready the site and open it to the community, consistent with the eligible tier authorized to receive the vaccine.”
However, Ventura County District 1 Supervisor Matt LaVere said he anticipates the site will be open sometime in February. “(Staff) confirmed Ojai is getting a (vaccination) location, likely opening in mid to late February, depending on vaccine supply we get from (the) state,” LaVere told the Ojai Valley News in an email.
Both LaVere and Bautista said that Nordhoff High School is the probable location for a walk-in vaccination site. “People have to be monitored when they receive the vaccine to make sure they don’t have adverse reactions,” Bautista said. “More people can be vaccinated in the walk-in option than a drive-through.”
For now, there are three mass vaccination locations in Ventura County: Ventura Fairgrounds, South Oxnard Public Health, and Goebel Adult Community Center in Thousand Oaks.
Residents in Phase 1A, and those ages 75 and older, can register for vaccine appointments at www.venturacountyrecovers.org/vaccine-information/portal. The registration phone number is also available on Mondays at 805-477-7161.
If any older adult is in need of transportation to a vaccine appointment or to a COVID-19 testing site, the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging offers transportation. This includes the ability to transport a wheelchair or gurney. The team picks up, takes the individual, waits with the individual and then takes the individual home. An appointment for transportation to a vaccine appointment can only be made once an appointment for vaccination is secured. The phone number to request a ride is 805-477-7300.”
