OUSD website links for schools reopening Aug. 19

(Editor's note: Since this article was published in early July, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced July 17 that all public and private schools must open with distance learning only in counties, such as Ventura County, that are on the state's monitoring list for COVID-19.)

 

Ojai Unified School District Superintendent Tiffany Morse explained school reopening plans during eight town halls this week and provided a four-page list of frequently asked questions about current plans, in English and Spanish.

On June 26, Morse sent an email to OUSD families describing plans, along with website links for more information, for district forms and for meeting signups.

She wrote:

 

"Dear Families,

 

"I hope you are enjoying your summer so far!

 

"We have been hard at work preparing for our return to school ... We know that our students are the heart and future of the community and we want to both keep everyone safe and healthy and provide the best educational experience possible. While we don't have all of the answers, we want to share with you what we have so far so that you can begin your planning and preparation. "We will determine which A/B day schedule your child will be on by splitting the student population at each school in half. Our first priority is to put siblings on the same schedule at all sites. We have not yet heard from CIF about final plans for next year, but we believe there will be a statement released on July 20th. "Thank you for your patience as we navigate this very new territory. As you can imagine, the logistics are daunting, and every school district in the state is working to find the best solutions for students in the fall while keeping kids and staff safe. I try and keep this advice from writer Anne Lamott in mind as we work each day on our plan:

 

"'Thirty years ago my older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was trying to get a report on birds written that he'd had three months to write. It was due the next day. We were out at our family cabin in Bolinas, and he was at the kitchen table close to tears, surrounded by binder paper and pencils and unopened books on birds, immobilized by the hugeness of the task ahead. Then my father sat down beside him, put his arm around my brother's shoulder, and said. 'Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.'"

 

 

Parents with students who plan to participate in Nordhoff sports can begin the Athletic Clearance process by making an appointment with a primary-care physicians to get a sports physical, and by completing the online registration through:

Nordhoff will not be hosting the Physicals Fundraiser this year.

Once the physical and online information has been verified, the student will be cleared for sports participation.
