Student care teams, including at Meiners Oaks Elementary (pictured), provided provided breakfast, lunch, books and devices for students this week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Tuesday.

Schools were closed down starting Monday due to COVID-19, based on recommendations from Ventura County Public Health in consultation with the Ventura County Office of Education. These services will be available to students for the duration of the closure at each OUSD school site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The students care teams were primarily made up of school faculty and administration staff.

According to Meiners Oaks Principal Theresa Dutter, the turnout for the lunches was lower on Tuesday because of the rainy weather. However, students were coming out in numbers to get lunches, books and devices on Wednesday. They were likely going to have to restock the brown bag lunches during the two-hour span, Dutter added.
Students could pick up breakfast for the following day in addition to the brown bag lunch. The meals are free for all children, even if they do not attend OUSD schools. The meal services complies with social - and sanitation protocols. Everyone with the student care teams wore gloves.
