An Ojai man found dead in a downtown park died of natural causes, officials said.
Gary Ware, 65, died July 12 in Cluff Vista Park, 324 W. Ojai Ave., according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A passerby found Ware lying on a bench in the park at approximately 6:40 p.m. and notified firefighters eating at a nearby business, deputy medical examiner Armando Chavez told the Ojai Valley News.
Firefighters found Ware unresponsive and declared him dead at the scene.
An autopsy revealed his passing was caused by natural circumstances.
Ware’s family told investigators he had been homeless for more than 20 years and was in declining health, Chavez said.
