At its April 26 meeting the Ojai City Council will vote on whether to authorize the City Manager to enter the city into an agreement with Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County to move forward with a plan for affordable housing at a currently vacant city-owned property located at 408 N. Montgomery Street.
Art scholarship from The Ojai Studio Artists - deadline April 29

With a deadline of April 29th, The Ojai Studio Artists is offering a total of $10,000 in scholarships to eligible high school and college students in the Ojai Valley who are pursuing careers in the arts.

City seeking applicants for several commission openings - deadline May 13

Four city commissions have openings and residents of the City of Ojai (required for Building Appeals Commission) and the Ojai Valley are encouraged to apply to be appointed for four year terms. The deadline for applications is May 13.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Upper Ojai Search and Rescue members escort a hiker to the sheriff's helicopter after five Search and Rescue team members found him 3 miles east of the Punch Bowls hiking area between Ojai and Santa Paula, in Los Padres Forest.
A cold and tired hiker 3 miles east of the popular Punch Bowls in Los Padres Forest was rescued by five members of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Upper Ojai Search and Rescue team April 21.
After hiking 6 miles to find him, they all camped overnight and were all helicoptered back to the trailhead the next morning.

Two Santa Paula High School track students and their school bus driver were taken to Ventura County Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries after a school bus rolled over on South Mountain Road west of Santa Paula on April 22. They were on their way to a Ventura County track championship in Moorpark. Nine students, their track coach and a school bus driver were all in the bus when it overturned.

The story of Marcos the mountain lion goes back to November 11, 2020.
Robert Gilcrest, president and CEO of Method Builders, Inc. of Santa Barbara, was driving westbound on Highway 154 at approximately 6:30 a.m. when he saw something large stretched out in the eastbound lane.

An appeal has been filed challenging the Ojai Planning Commission’s April 6 approval of plans to remodel and reopen Hotel El Roblar at 122 E. Ojai Ave., which means the project will now be scheduled for a new hearing before the Ojai City Council.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Ojai man for evading following a pursuit that went from downtown Ojai to midtown Ventura on April 15.
Shortly before 10 a.m., a citizen flagged down a patrol vehicle on Ojai Avenue and directed the deputy toward a suspicious subject in a vehicle, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire Department hosts free Junior Firefighter Academy

Ventura County Fire Department’s popular free Junior Firefighter Academy is back this summer for girls and boys ages 13 to 16. VCFD will offer three, five-day sessions taught by firefighters and featuring hands-on activities, interactive learning and field trips. The academy is held at the Ventura County Fire Services Regional Training Center at Camarillo Airport, 102 Durley Ave.
Registration is open through April 30, for up to 25 teens per session. Interested applicants must complete online registration at https://vcfd.org/junior-fire-academy/
