An Ojai man accused of setting a brush fire near Meiners Oaks in June 2021 has been convicted.
On April 29, a jury found Jorge Flores, 29, guilty of arson of a structure or forest, a felony.

As part of the second phase of decommissioning 50 oil and gas wells on Rincon Island at Mussel Shoals, between Ventura and La Conchita, the California State Lands Commission is seeking public input on the future of the man-made island.
There is a May 16 deadline for members of the public to comment on which of three options they prefer — reuse, reef, or removal. Approximately 100 people rallied May 3 at the Ventura County Government Center in response to a U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion that, if finalized, would effectively overturn the 1973 precedent-setting Roe v. Wade decision declaring that women have a right to legal abortion across the country.

A man was transported by ambulance to Santa Paula Hospital with a complaint of pain early Thursday, May 5, after his Toyota Tacoma and a Chevy SUV collided on Ojai Road at Koenigstein Road in Upper Ojai about 7 a.m.
