Grumette as Mr. Trotsky. They are performing in “Variations on the Death of Trotsky,” a short one-act comedy-drama written by David Ives, which is part of the series of one-act plays titled “All in the Timing,” opening at the Ojai Art Center Theater on April 29.
David Ives’ “All In The Timing” — a collection of quirky one-act comedies — will run at The Ojai Art Center Theater (113 S. Montgomery St.) for three weekends, from April 29 to May 15.

A farm-to-school program in Ojai begun 20 years ago is searching for its next executive director.
Lori Hamor, who has led Food for Thought Ojai since 2010, is stepping back from the position but not the organization. “I’m looking to transition onto the board,” the Meiners Oaks resident told the Ojai Valley News.

Embury, 84, drove his restored World War II-era Ford jeep to the Ojai Cars & Coffee classic car show April 10 at Westridge Midtown Market.
Ojai Valley Defense Fund hosts field trip

The Ojai Valley Defense Fund hosted a special day for valley residents on April 3, exploring some unique activities in and around neighboring Santa Paula.
The invitation was extended to all valley residents, and the first 40 to respond enjoyed a day of friendship and adventure. The group's first stop was to Santa Paula's Steckel Park, where longtime caretaker, John Eckert, provided a historical overview and explanation of the park's aviary. A wide variety of birds, including peacocks, lovebirds, and an animated cockatoo named "Julie," greeted the group with squawks and coos.

A fire that sent up a huge plume of black smoke visible throughout the Ojai Valley destroyed an equipment shed at Soule Park Golf Course on April 14.
The fire, dubbed the “Shady Fire,” was reported at approximately 12:05 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Ojai Avenue, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

Friday, April 22 is the deadline for all community organizations to submit applications for grant funding from the City of Ojai for the next — 2022-2023 — fiscal year. Applications must be received by the city no later than April 22.

The Ojai City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, April 12. The meeting will take place in person at Ojai City Hall and virtually.
One of the consent items is to authorize an increase of an additional $100,000 towards the city’s legal expenses in the Ventura River Watershed Adjudication matter with the City of Ventura. The total amount allocated would then be $250,000. The funds will be pulled from the Reserve Fund.

The City of Ojai Historic Preservation Commission is meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 in council chambers at Ojai City Hall, 401 S. Ventura Street, Ojai. The meeting is taking place in person and virtually.
The agenda includes a review of the Ojai Playhouse facade restoration and painting plans and a review from the Ad Hoc committee that is reviewing the proposal of a Local Downtown Historic District. The commission will hear a presentation by Christina Morris of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Brush fire closes lane of 33 in Ventura
