Obituaries for the week ending March 8, 2002


Margaret Farrell Krauss

Margaret Farrell Krauss, 92, of Ojai, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at The Gables of Ojai. She was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Bridgeport, Conn., and lived in Ojai for 26 years, coming from Paris, France.
Mrs. Krauss was a homemaker and assisted her husband, William A. Krauss, in foreign service functions. They served in the foreign service at posts including Central and South America, Marseilles, London, and Paris, retiring to Ojai in 1976.
Mr. Krauss died in 1993. They had been married for 60 years.
Mrs. Krauss is survived by a niece, Barbara J. Greger, of West Los Angeles.
Private family services have been held.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Ojai Affiliate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

 

Verna Helen Chase Thompson

Verna Chase Thompson, 87, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 3, 1914, in Eagle Rock, Calif., to Vernon Menlo Chase and Helen Allard Chase.
After spending her early childhood at the Allard Ranch on the Columbia River, she attended Mound Elementary School and Ventura High School, graduating in 1932.
She married John Thompson Jr. at Mission San Buenaventura on July 31, 1937. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and seamstress who researched and documented the family's genealogy. Her interests included golf, boating, RV camping, and playing games of gin.
She is survived by her husband, John Thompson; daughters and sons-in-law Marla and Endre Mott-Smith of Salt Lake City, Sharon and Orlen Walling of La Pine, Ore., Thelma and Thomas Atkinson of Ojai; daughter Paula Thompson of Ventura; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association Hospice and to the Ventura County Museum of History and Art-Ventura County Historical Society, and the Ojai Valley Historical Society.
Rosary will be recited Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Catherine and memorial Mass will be held Saturday, March 9, at 9 a.m. at the San Buenaventura Mission in downtown Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
