Asian citrus psyllids carry a disease called HLB which devastates citrus crops. The tiny insect is difficult to eradicate, especially when owners of citrus trees neglect to examine their trees and properly treat them. (Ojai Valley News archive photo)
There is a pest lurking at the boundaries of the Ojai Valley and local citrus growers want to keep it from becoming established in this citrus-growing valley. The pest is called the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) and has the potential to carry and spread a deadly citrus disease called huanglongbing (also called citrus greening or HLB). ACP can spread quickly and easily, much like aphids.
