Though great views and weather draw more than 750,000 people a year to Lake Casitas for recreation, the man-made reservoir is the main source of drinking water for about 70,000 people and several farms from the Ojai Valley to the Santa Barbara County line to west Ventura.
Casitas’ earth-filled dam allows the lake to hold a capacity of 254,000 acre-feet of water — a small fraction compared to northern California’s Lake Oroville, which can hold more than 3.5 million acre-feet.
