This section of the eucalyptus grove has been thinned in preparation for the first phase of replacement with native oak trees. A number of eucalyptus trees remain to provide high perches for birds until the oaks get large enough to serve this role.

A few inches of rain at the beginning of the month brought water back to the wetlands at the Ojai Meadows Preserve, located just north of Nordhoff High School along Highway 33. But the rain brought no respite from complaints from neighbors, many of whom believe that the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy (OVLC) is cutting down the remaining stands of eucalyptus trees on the property too rapidly.
