For Oak Grove School's sixth-grade students, science is a messy, adventurous and sometimes tasty experience.
“The study of science is about tapping into the curiosity the kids already have, and about creating a space where they can actually experiment, discuss, observe, compare and analyze,” says Jim Bailey, Oak Grove’s sixth-grade teacher and winner of the Best of the Ojai Valley Teacher of the Year award for two years running. “This kind of learning takes time and individual attention, but the results are dramatic.”
