A fire that started Thursday afternoon on Santa Paula's Wheeler Canyon Road has grown to 100 acres, according to Ventura County Fire Department's PUblic Information Officer Mike Lindberry.
As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, approximately 150 firefighters were on scene, with support from air units, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, CHP and county animal services.
About 20 structures were threatened and structure protection teams were ready to defend them if needed.
A voluntary evacuation order was in effect north of the 6800 block of Wheeler Canyon Road, which includes the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation training facility. It was unknown whether the dogs or personnel have evacuated.
Two injuries were reported, Lindberry said, one "general illness" and one heat-related.
An animal evacuation center for large animals had been set up at the Ventura County Fairgrounds; call 388-4258 for information.
