Fire season is quickly approaching Southern California as the Ventura County Fire Department pushes to get people and their properties ready. County residents and property owners have less than a month to comply with the VCFD's June 1 fire hazard reduction program (weed abatement) deadline. According to the department, if a property borders a natural area, known as the wildland urban interface, their risk of wildfire largely increases. Properties that are within one mile of a natural area are in what is known as the ember zone.
