Personnel from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and Ventura County Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire April 16 at 2:57 p.m. in a barranca south of Del Oro Drive in Ojai, according to VCFD PIO officer Steve Swindle.
The blaze began as a grass fire, but winds moved it into heavier brush and then into a stand of eucalyptus and several wood piles behind homes in the 500 block of Del Oro. By 5 pm, with the help of a water-dropping helicopter, firefighters had extinguished the blaze and hand crews were in the barranca working on hot spots.
Units from the Ventura Fire Department and the Los Padres National Forest also assisted.
Swindle said crews would likely remain on the scene until approximately 7:30 pm.
