When Chris Vyhnal, The Thacher School's science department chair, helped dedicate the school's research-grade observatory in December, he shared with students that the legacy of astronomy research at their school stretches back to a commencement speech Edwin Hubble delivered on campus in 1942.
It turns out the study of astronomy at Thacher dates back much further, to the beginning of the 20th century. The school even served as a research ground for a Nobel laureate, Vyhnal found.
