The Ojai City Council tabled a draft ordinance March 14 that would ban the use of leaf blowers within the city limits. City officials pledged to take up the issue once again after six months with the hope that they will arrive at a compromise ordinance.
Since 2014, the city has taken up the leaf blower issue at least once a year.
Since 1999, 18 city staff reports have been generated on the issue, confirmed city administrative analyst Amber Young.
After nearly two hours of public comment and testimony, Mayor Johnny Johnston asked, “How did we get here?”
Councilwoman Suza Francina responded, “I made a motion to ban gas-powered leaf blowers in 1998,” with a laugh.
