The revised plan for constructing a brew pub on the site of the former Ojai Bowl came before the Ojai Planning Commission (OPC) when it met in regular session March 15, and planners appeared receptive.
OPC members voiced agreement with Commissioner Chester Jagiello, who said he liked the design proposed for the new facility at 1202 E. Ojai Ave. but thought the issues of parking, traffic, noise levels and lighting could bear more study.
The project has been scaled down since May 2016, the time of its first concept review before the OPC, with the restaurant reduced from 30,000 to 5,000 square feet, lead architect Marc Whitman told the Commission. The prospect of a hotel on the site — which had not been included in the first phase of construction — has now been set aside, he said, although the builder, For Real LLC, was still reserving the possibility of such an addition in the future.
