Those who draw water from the Ojai Basin could see their fees going up soon. The Ojai Basin Groundwater Management Agency (OBGMA) will hold a discussion and seek public comment on the issue when it meets in regular session Feb. 23.
“The budget committee will recommend to the Board that we raise the fee to $25,” OBGMA board member Jerry Conrow said Feb. 13. The increase, he said, would be retroactive to the first of the year.
The charge, currently at $17.50 per acre-foot of water, has been raised only once since 2007, when it was at $7.50. The range is set by state legislative action, and $25 is the current maximum.
