Ojai basin water extractors could see fee increase

Bill Warner, Ojai Valley News reporter
Those who draw water from the Ojai Basin could see their fees going up soon. The Ojai Basin Groundwater Management Agency (OBGMA) will hold a discussion and seek public comment on the issue when it meets in regular session Feb. 23.
“The budget committee will recommend to the Board that we raise the fee to $25,” OBGMA board member Jerry Conrow said Feb. 13. The increase, he said, would be retroactive to the first of the year.
The charge, currently at $17.50 per acre-foot of water, has been raised only once since 2007, when it was at $7.50. The range is set by state legislative action, and $25 is the current maximum.
