Former Nordhoff High School pitcher Cody Deason and the University of Arizona Wildcats are off to a fast start this season. The Wildcats are currently 10-2 on the year and are the ninth-ranked team in college baseball. Last year, Arizona made it to the finals of the College World Series before losing to Costal Carolina. Deason has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this spring, giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs in four innings of work, but the former Ranger figures to play a key role on Arizona’s pitching staff once again this year. Deason is not the only NHS alumnus playing for a ranked D-1 baseball team this spring. Luke Boyd and the Baylor Bears are off to an 11-1 start and are currently ranked 22nd in the country. Boyd is 1-0 with a 8.59 ERA in three appearances as a true freshman.

Looking ahead to Frontier League action, the Wildcats figure to be right in the mix for a playoff berth this season.
VPS last made the playoffs in 2015, but followed that up in 2016 with a 6-12 overall
