The Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Dec. 13 to direct staff to disallow certain types of short-term rentals in the unincorporated areas of the county.
County staff will draft an ordinance which disallows all but homeshares — a rental that also serves as the owner's primary residence — in the Ojai Valley.
Whole-house rentals would be prohibited under the ordinance, though there would be exceptions for historic homes.
“I think we do have a community that is at risk in the Ojai Valley,” said Supervisor Steve Bennett, referring to a perceived proliferation of investor-owned short-term rentals. “We have to stop the growth in this investment model in the Ojai Valley.”
