Patricia “Pat” Weinberger passed away in the early morning of Dec. 12. She was 93.
Weinberger was known as a fierce protector of Ojai's environment, and just two weeks ago was awarded the city's 2016 Preservation Award by Ojai Mayor Paul Blatz.
During the Nov. 29 Ojai City Council meeting, Blatz recalled Weinberger's achievements.
She helped stop the construction of a planned freeway through Ojai, created a federally protected watershed around Lake Casitas, thwarted the United States Gypsum (USG) Corporation's early 1970s proposal to mine the south slope of Pine Mountain and fought a proposal to create a dump in Weldon Canyon during the early 1990s. And that's not all.
