The moratorium on new water-well drilling in the Ojai basin will stay in place a little longer. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 at its regular session Dec. 6 to extend the ban in all Ventura County groundwater basins in which a designated groundwater sustainability agency (GSA) is submitting an alternative plan under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 (SIGMA).
The Ojai Basin Groundwater Management Agency (OBGMA) is filing such a plan with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) as part of its protocol as the designated GSA for the Ojai basin. The county's existing drilling ban was tentatively set to expire after the OBGMA filed its sustainability plan with the DWR. The deadline for that filing is Jan. 1.
