When Nordhoff High School (NHS) Rangers football coach Lance Wiggins took his team to the locker room at halftime Sept. 30 at San Marcos High School, the game was tied 7-7. After a passionate halftime speech, the Rangers came out and outscored the Royals 21-7 in the second half and cruised to a 28-14 win. The victory improved their record to 2-3 on the season.
“In the first half we were making the right play calls, but we were not doing the little things to execute. At halftime we challenged our playmakers and they responded,” said Wiggins.
Early in the game things did not look good for the Rangers. San Marcos came out in the no-huddle offense and moved the ball with ease. The NHS defense would hold the San Macros on its opening drive, but they found the end zone on the second drive.
