A coalition of Ojai hikers and conservation groups announced an agreement Sept. 21 to reopen public access to Matilija Falls.
The public was discouraged from using the route to Matilija Falls beginning in 2009 by a private property owner.
The trail crosses private property before entering the Los Padres National Forest.
A group of locals, who refer to themselves as Keep Access to Matilija Falls Open (KAMFO), worked for years to negotiate with the property owner to establish public access and ultimately initiated legal proceedings in January 2015.
