Communities all over the world made a point of observing the International Day of Peace Sept. 21, and Ojai was no exception. Beginning with a 7 a.m. meditation for peace at the Porch Gallery and concluding 14 hours later with a concert for peace at Meditation Mount, residents from around the Valley took time to join with the Ojai Peace Network (OPN), reflecting on the topics of nonviolence and cooperative living.
“A big part of doing peace work is just being there,” said OPN activist Evan Austin. “Showing up is a huge part of it.” Austin's remarks came antecedent to awarding the Network's annual Noble Peace Prize to the Ventura chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ).
