Customers of the Casitas Municipal Water District (CMWD) might be keeping a closer watch on their faucets in the year ahead. The conservation penalty for customers exceeding their monthly allocations could change to $5 per unit if approved by the CMWD Board of Directors Sept. 14.
The proposal comes on the heels of the CMWD's allocation program for fiscal year 2016-2017, entailing a 10-percent reduction in the allocation amounts of the previous year. “We did an analysis for compliance,” he said, “and we found a fairly small number of residential customers going over their allocations.” Overall, he said, conservation in the district is going very well. “We just want everyone to do very well.”
