The subject of implementing water-related development standards for Ojai was discussed by the Ojai City Council during an Aug. 30 special session. Late in the evening, the Council was unanimous in its request for city attorney Matthew Summers to develop a menu of options for new development standards and a potential moratorium ordinance. The Council also asked Summers to draft proposals for a limited building moratorium in respect to large commercial water meters and new swimming pools.
Drought-related moratoriums on new water connections are not unknown among the various water providers of the Ojai Valley. They've been imposed in the past, and one area provider currently has such a restriction in place.
