The cause of an Aug. 5 oil tank fire in Upper Ojai remains undetermined, according to Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) Capt. Anthony Romero. The tank exploded and caught fire at approximately 8 a.m., reportedly injuring two.
With a capacity of 5,000 gallons, the tank was initially thought to have contained around 4,000 gallons when it caught fire. The subsequent investigation, though, has indicated it contained far less, Romero said. “There appears to have been very little oil product in the tank at the time,” he said, “but this had led to the buildup of a large amount of fumes in the tank.”
