Summer camp helps girls build construction skills

Wednesday afternoon, Girl Scouts from around Ventura County worked on their carpentry skills, measuring and cutting lumber they would ultimately build into a lamp.

Their work is part of a week-long day camp held at the Rancho Arnaz, sponsored by the Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

The girls, who are 12 and older, will leave the camp with basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and masonry skills.
