Saturday will mark the 11th annual World Wide Knit in Public Day, and Lise Solvang is encouraging the public to drop by BookEnds Bookstore and turn a few stitches. “And all kinds of stitches are welcome,” she said. “That means knitting, sewing, weaving, crochet. It’s all about community coming together and having fun.”
This will be the second year for World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKPD) to be observed in Ojai, thanks largely to the efforts of Solvang. “Last year we had about 60 people take part,” she said. “There were men as well as women, and the ages ranged from 8 to 80.” Many of last year’s knitters stayed overtime, she said, forming the genesis of the BookEnds Knitting Group, which has continued to meet in the bookstore’s side yard on the first and third Thursday of every month.
