City says no to changes at winery

Bill Warner, Ojai Valley News reporter

Construction on the Topa Mountain Winery will be delayed for at least another month while the Ojai Planning Commission reviews data relevant to the owner’s latest modifications to the project. At least some of the modifications were listed on the agenda for approval at the Planning Commission’s regular session Wednesday. But by the time the meeting convened, city staff had issued a memo urging for the item to be continued.

This appeared to be a result of a failure on the part of the applicant, owner Larry Guerrera, to apprise city staff of all of the latest changes, a circumstance placing the design of the construction at 821 W. Ojai Ave. at odds with what the Community Development Department knew about it. “Staff has consulted with the city attorney, and per his direction, the project cannot go forward due to the discrepancies and will need to be continued,” wrote Ojai Community Development Director Kathleen Wold, author of the Feb. 3 memorandum.
