Don’t runoff just yet, storms will send pollutants downstream

As rain falls this week, storm water will run down driveways, along curbs and into Ojai’s aging storm drain system.

Stormwater runoff is a source of pollution that affects local waterways: numerous creeks, the Ventura and San Antonio Rivers and, ultimately, the Pacific Ocean.

“First flush, any surfer knows, that first flush after a storm is not a good time to be out surfing because it’s trash, but also a lot of bacteria and a lot of other pollutants (in the water),” said Greg Grant, Ojai’s public works director.
