Bushwacked: Council delays forced trimming of hedges

The City Council delved into the issue of hedge height again Tuesday night, in a special meeting.

The City Council last discussed hedge height during its Oct. 27 meeting, where the council invoked its emergency exception privilege and unanimously approved a motion to suspend enforcement of Ordinance 771 that sets a maximum height for fences, walls and hedges.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office labelled the move a violation of the Brown Act, which protects the public’s right to attend legislative meetings, and called on the Ojai City Council to “cure and correct” the violation in a letter to Mayor Severo Lara dated Nov. 6.
