In the United States, most students can afford a few missed school days here and there — albeit amid objections from their teachers. In other parts of the world, every day in school can give a student a greater opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. However, girls in some countries miss months of school because of a natural, recurring event — menstruation. Without access to feminine hygiene supplies, many girls stay home to avoid embarrassment.
