El Niño events are nothing new to the Ojai Valley. The two most recent were in 2005 and 1998.
During the summer of 1997 the National Weather Service was already alerting the public of the El Nino forming, and of the expectation it would impact weather around the globe. In August of that year forecasters said to expect 200 percent of normal rainfall across Southern California. Communities watched and waited.
